Power Shift

First, thanks for all the letters from the Hamilton Spectator readers asking where Power Shift has gone. The good news is that the Toronto Star still has Power Shift on Saturdays,(and of course, anyone travelling to Newfoundland or Halifax can find it), and I post it to my site later that same day. If you're in a big old hurry, Wheels.ca has started posting it up on Thursdays (today). Yay!

There's a link on my home page to the Spec, and you can contact them through that, if you like. To those of you who have told me you've already done it, thank you. I appreciate it.

There's a new editor's note in today's Wheels section that explains the changes (a different company entirely is creating the section) and I'm referred to as the Spectator's mommy columnist. I am really proud of Motherlode, and I'm proud to have been writing it for the Spec for the past 3 and a half years. Yeah, I'm insulted to be dismissed as a mommy columnist. And here I thought it was at least a little more...

I'm also proud of Power Shift, and I'm glad I had the opoportunity to create and nurture it at the Spec. I'm sorry it's gone from there. It's a drag. It's also business. Poop happens.

I'm glad Tim Miller has found a new home in Sports; look for him there.
I'm really peeved that Dennis O'Sullivan is gone from the new format - talk about a guy with his finger on the local pulse. When he lands somewhere, I'll keep you posted.

I've tried to call the paper about this, Lorraine, but haven't heard back. I think it sucks, and I'm thinking this section may just end up heading straight into the bluebox again.

Sorry to see you go...but I'll find you at the Star.

Re: Revamped Wheels Section
You want to feature more local content? Who could be more local than someone who lives, drives and works in the Greater Hamilton Area? Who could be more local than Lorraine Sommerfeld?
Now while I am mildly intrigued by the latest offering from BMW/Audi/Lexus and its heated, vibrating, leather seats c ustom contoured to my specific rear-end, I, like most of your readers, will never buy one. And I certainly won’t be basing that decision solely on a newspaper article.
Give us want we want; memories of Sunday drives with the family, the trials and tribulations of keeping our old car on the road, and real time driving issues from the GHA.
Bring back Lorraine Sommerfeld!

One more reason to boycott the Spectator. How dumb are they? You were the best writer to happen to that paper in years. For the first time, my wife fought me for the car section of the paper!

Don't boycott them! I'm still in the GO section!

But I do love that your wife read Power Shift - pass that along to them.

Thanks, everyone. Love the love.

I think the Spec will live to regret this one.

To be honest. I only read Power Shift and Dennis O'Sullivan's column. I loved those two columns but didn't read much else in that section

Funny thing too, I don't know if it's the font they're using but, in my opinion, the whole section now looks like one big advertorial. I gave it a try for two weeks and now I don't even bother to open it.

At least I still know where to find Power Shift

Keep up the good work!

One big lousy advertising piece, if you ask me. What a crock. Right when papers are losing readers, they further disrespect us by thinking we won't know the difference between actual writing and the garbage they're passing off as original.

Toronto Star, here I come. Lorraine was a welcome change, and actually got my wife and I to agree there was something worth reading in this section.
