Come on, DJ...don't tell me this isn't the most fun we've had in, well, forever.

They're all gonna blow themselves up...but it's worth it to get rid of Harper...his own party is finally - finally - showing signs of standing up to him.

He's a wretch. Bundle him up in a cardigan and dispatch him...

...this guy makes Brian Mulroney look good, eh?

Now, I don't think anything could make Brian McChin look good - don't burn up too many of your tickets with me...shortens the midway :)

For all his faults, and they are legion, the chin-that-walks-like-a-man at least understood Quebec. Harper never has and Dion, well, Dion still thinks it's October 14 and he has a chance.

Dion had a chance?
Seriously, I was looking for a none of the above box, or a place to write in 'Pedro'

I only just noticed the festive look to Lorraine's site. Did you have any say in this or did WGJ do it just to make you nuts?

Only in his eyes... only in his eyes... and his prescription has change a fair bit these past seven weeks.

Hmmm. I'm gonna give you one of those and then snatch one back, OmemeeOzzie. Mulroney had a firmer grasp on Quebec politics (which have continued to torque and twist to not discernable beat in the time hence), but Dion knows he's done.

My greatest hope is that this man, who really is one of the smarter brains in there, will display the grace and muster up the firm ground he needs to leave with his head held high. I've always thought he deserved that. He was never the arrogant pr*ck that all the rest are.

I actually fear that we are going to (if not already have) fall into a state of chaos resembling Italy. The government there is fractured into so many parties, that a majority is nearly impossible. As a result, their government fails on average, every nine months (there must be something Freudian there)and almost nothing gets done. As a further concern (or lack) the population is beyond caring.

Would love to stay and play some more, but the streetlights came on (somewhere), and I've got to go home.

Night, all.

Heh. But tell me this system wouldn't ultimately (not sure if this is the way) make a whole hell of a lot more sense if 5 - count 'em 5 - parties weren't all trying to reach the tunnel at the same time. Brings to mind the running of the bulls.

Voters are left to pick between what are basically 2 ideologies (broadly stating it), but why do we think we identify so strongly with the Demcrat/Republican thing in the U.S.? We can splice all the hairs we want, but the bottom line is that we're splicing hairs to the detriment of our governing parties abilities.

I agree that our system is too fractured now, and the the current parties are mostly the same shade of bleh.

I proposed a plan sometime ago that party politics be abandoned, but no one came to the meeting.

I think a coalition party could work well if everyone gave it a chance. Trouble is Harper is making it a power play deal which is both contrary to what he was "aiming for as opposition leader" and to what was actually proposed by the three parties. Pro rogue parliament? Not a viable option as Harper would merely delay the inevitable in January. What's so bad about Quebec having a say in parliament? They are a huge vote holding bloc.Hold a vote on the budget bill? Yes, if it falls he can either ask to disband parliament and hold another election or the Gov Gen could ask the coalition to form the government.I find Harper's statement this evening mendacious and simplistic. No mention whatever of the King-Byng situation in the 1920s. Mind you, Stephane Dion camping on Gov General's doorstep asking her not to pro rogue parliament was pretty stupid of him to do. Spank em all and send them to bed without supper.
